Our Story. Rooted in Culture. Inspired by a Diaspora.

My Haitian heritage is naturally woven into the way I see the world.

I still carry memories of traveling through Haiti—landing in Port-au-Prince, taking buses to Port-Salut, riding in the back of a pickup truck to Okay, and taking a small boat to Île-à-Vache. The colors, the landscapes, from the hustle and bustle to tranquility—I can still feel the joys of those trips.

But Brooklyn shaped me too. I’m grateful I grew up in a time when we rode our bikes all day. The trains. The parks. The stoops. The neighborhoods. The constant mix of people, music, food, style, and stories.

The result is art that may feel Caribbean, Black American, bohemian, nostalgic, urban, joyful, a little wonderfully unexpected. There is room for all of it here. All of it lives somewhere in House of 1804—a gathering place.

Much of what becomes a House of 1804 piece—a mood, a memory, an expression, a color combination, or simply a dream I wish I could hang on a wall.

Imagination + Intention

I’m drawn to rich color, florals, texture, quiet confidence, bold personalities, a little nostalgia, a little whimsy, and wonderfully quirky details.

AI-assisted tools help me explore an early idea or concept. From there, I select, experiment, edit, refine color, work with digital texture and composition, remove things, add things back, and keep going until a piece finally feels unmistakably House of 1804.

The vision is personal and the choices are mine. Plenty of pieces never make it beyond my screen because they simply don’t feel right.

I can spend an unreasonable amount of time wondering whether a shade should be warmer, whether an expression feels right, or whether the flowers need to bloom just a little more wildly. Perfection isn’t what interests me most. Creating art that evokes emotion is the goal.

A Little About Me

I’m Kika—the founder, creative, and resident daydreamer behind House of 1804.

I give off first-born, eldest-daughter energy. If you know, you know. I love to travel, I’m absolutely a foodie, I can happily lose time imagining beautiful rooms and beautiful things, and I am a whole Taurus—which probably explains both my love of comfort and beauty and my ability to obsess over one tiny detail until it finally feels right.

I’m naturally curious, sentimental, particular, and always dreaming up something. House of 1804 gives all of those parts of me somewhere to go.

And Then There’s Raven

Meet Raven—my bestest girl, four-legged sidekick, and very official Chief Happiness Officer.

Most days, she is somewhere nearby while I work, reminding me that there are apparently more important things in life than changing the same shade of green for the umpteenth time.

Her responsibilities include making sure I step away from the screen, get outside, share treats, provide sufficient belly rubs, and generally maintain some perspective.

Raven has become part of the everyday rhythm of House of 1804 and, quite frankly, takes her position very seriously.

Soulful art for joyful living. Your walls will thank you.
